Sydney: Day 7

During our last day in Australia before departing back to Malaysia, we decided to buy souvenirs at Paddy’s Market in Sydney. Paddy’s Market opens on weekdays starting Wednesday and ends on Sunday. There were so many items sold such as key chains, shirts and Australia souvenirs.

After than, we went for our final tour around Sydney but this time, we went to the sides of the city that we have never been to like The Rocks, Star City and Darling Harbour.

In the evening, we went to one of Sydney’s famous beaches which is Maroubra Beach. The beach is located half an hour from our accommodation in East Lakes.

We observed that Australians knew how to promote their country by producing and selling Australia souvenirs. From clothing, accessories, stationeries and home decorations with Australia labels and designs on it, these items are Australia ambassador to the world in effort of promoting Australia as tourist centre of attraction.

The scenery was different compare with Malaysia’s beach as the water is clearer and colder. Moreover, Maroubra beach is facing Pacific Ocean which differ than Malaysia beaches as they are facing South China Sea and Strait of Malacca. Maroubra Beach and is one of the surfer hot-spot in Sydney apart from Bondi Beach.

Introduction

Chemical Engineering Australia Challenge 2009 (CEAC’ 09) is an international visit comprises of three elements which are academic, industrial and social. In this visit, we emphasized in three agendas which are academic discussion between Universiti Malaysia Pahang students and students from Australia universities. Second is to explore the industrial development and advancement and the employability potential for chemical engineering industry in Australia while third is to exchange culture between Malaysian and Australian cultures.

For academic visit, we have selected Australia top universities that have focus in Chemical Engineering. This focus was referred to pure chemical, biotechnology, oil and gas. The objective of this visit is to establish two-way cooperation between Universiti Malaysia Pahang and Australia universities. We wish to initialize academic collaboration programme in terms of information exchange in terms of latest technology that they have in Chemical Engineering specifically in pure chemical, biotechnology, oil and gas. Apart from that, we will also study on Australia educational system starting from lower education to higher education and the teaching approach practiced by Australian academicians to be implemented into Universiti Malaysia Pahang teaching system.

Industrial visit is defined as visit to industrial areas in Australia and in this visit, we focus on industries that relate with Chemical Engineering field like chemical industries, biotechnology industries and oil and gas industries. Cultural exchange is referred to arts and cultures and introduction of Malaysian cultures to Australians and understanding Australian cultures. This visit also wishes to expose Universiti Malaysia Pahang students to how Malaysian students in Australia adapt with the country’s nature and how they live and study abroad.
